Empire of the Sun

Spielberg went to great lengths to ensure the authenticity of the aircraft used in Empire of the Sun. The Harvard SNJs were modified to resemble Zeros, and the P-51 Mustangs were flown by experienced pilots. The aerial sequences were filmed over the course of 10 days and included the Mustangs dropping plaster-filled replica bombs. Spielberg was not satisfied with the results of the large-scale remote-control models, so he opted to use full-size aircraft instead. The film’s attention to detail is evident in its use of period vehicles and aircraft.
What was interesting was not only the film but also the Bushido and narcissism of Bale. I had not thought of that but he was a perfect narcissist as he hurried to each step in camp.
